Have you ever heard of Marina, the little mermaid of Tortoreto? She is loved by all the children who spend their holidays in this beautiful Abruzzo town. Here’s her story!
Once upon a time, there was a sweet mermaid named Marina, who loved to play on the shore with the little crabs. One warm summer evening, while the full moon illuminated the sea, Marina was playing in the waves, making seashells dance with her friends from the sea.
Suddenly, she was drawn to the lights of the coast and the laughter of children playing on the beach with their families. The scent of the sea and the dishes served at the restaurants along the shore piqued her curiosity even more.
"How joyful! I want to see what’s happening over there!" Marina thought as she moved closer to the shore.
As soon as she touched the beach, a child noticed her and, with wide eyes, exclaimed:
"Look, a mermaid!"
In no time, all the children ran towards her, amazed and full of wonder.
"Do mermaids really exist?" asked one of them.
"Of course we do!" Marina answered with a smile. "But only those who believe in the magic of dreams can see us!"
Fascinated by the children’s curiosity, Marina began to tell her sea adventures, stories of playful little fish and mysterious creatures from the deep. In return, the children told her about their days in Tortoreto, playing on the sand, attending parties, enjoying music, and feeling the joy that filled the air.
It was at that moment that Marina understood the reason for their happiness and decided she would return every time she could to be with them. Thus, she officially became the Little Mermaid of the Children.
To this day, it is said that on nights of the full moon, Marina returns to Tortoreto's beach to greet all those little dreamers who still believe in magic.
